Smith Machine Calf Raise

Use the Smith machine to build stronger, more defined calves.

If you're training calves with FitnessTracker, the Smith Machine Calf Raise is an excellent way to add volume without sacrificing form. The fixed bar path lets you focus on a deep stretch and strong contraction.

Instructions

  1. Position a raised platform (block or plates) under the bar and load your weight.
  2. Stand with the balls of your feet on the platform and the bar resting across your upper back.
  3. Unrack the bar and raise your heels by pressing through the balls of your feet.
  4. Pause briefly at the top, flexing your calves.
  5. Lower your heels slowly for a deep stretch, then repeat.
