Brachialis

Explore the structure and function of the brachialis muscle, a powerful flexor of the elbow joint.

Brachialis

The brachialis muscle is an important flexor of the forearm at the elbow, located in the anteroinferior area of the arm, deeper than the biceps brachii muscle. It originates from the distal anterior humerus (upper arm bone) and inserts onto the ulnar tuberosity (a part of the ulna bone in the forearm).

The brachialis is considered a "pure flexor" of the forearm at the elbow, meaning its sole action is to bend the elbow. Unlike the biceps, it does not participate in the supination or pronation (twisting) of the forearm. It is one of the largest elbow flexors and can generate significant power.
